ポハラ・マラエ Pohara Marae in Maungatautari

　タウポーのハテペ・マラエから移動して、マウンガタウタリという地域へ。次にお世話になったのはリーアン・ミュンツさんホストのポハラ・マラエ。ここでは2009年のAMOアンバサダー・プログラムで島田さんと交流のあったベンサムさん、ケイトさん家族もホスト側として私たちを出迎えてくれた。一泊のみの滞在でしたが、自然に囲まれたマウンガタウタリのポハラ・マラエでのびのびと過ごしながら、色々なプログラムを通じてマオリ文化、自然、アロハの心、料理や交わした言葉の一つ一つから学ぶことがありました。夜には、ケイトさんから「テ・アロハ」という短いマオリの歌を教えて頂きました。この歌は、「愛・尊敬と信念と平和をみんなのために」という意味を持つ歌でした。このプログラムを支えてくださる多くのマオリの方達、そしてその他のたくさんの人々の力でアオテアロアに来れたようにこれからの私たちの道にとってとても大切なマオリからのメッセージに聞こえました。

After leaving the Hatepe marae (meeting house) in Taupo, we went on to Maungatautari where Lee Anne Muntz hosted us at her marae, called Pohara. Bentham Ohiam and Kate Cherrington, who Akemi Shimada met during the Advancement of Maori Opportunity Ambassador Program, and their family members were also our hosts at Pohara. We only spent one night, but we were able to learn a variety things about Maori culture, thoughts on nature, the Aroha spirit, cooking while relaxing in comfortable environment surrounded by nature. At night, Kate tought us the song Te Aroha:

The words mean "Love, faith and peace be amongst us all."  As were were only able to come to Aotearoa with all of the Maori support we have been receiving and the strength of other people along the way, the message in this song resonated with us deeply.
